Connecting and sharing ideas to fuel research progress

About Exeloop℠

Exeloop℠ serves as a dynamic hub connecting the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust (KTCT) with Toffler Scholars, university partners, and research supporters across philanthropy, policy, and investment. Designed as a catalyst for collaboration, Exeloop builds a living network where relationships deepen, discoveries gain momentum, and the future of brain health begins to take form. Through this integrated model, Exeloop connects emerging scientific talent with experienced leaders and supporters who can help translate promising ideas into real-world impact. Within this network, the Scholar Exeloop brings together early-career researchers to share ideas and build scientific collaboration. At the same time, the Executive Exeloop convenes senior leaders, innovators, and philanthropists to explore how cross-sector partnerships can accelerate discovery. This approach fosters trust and a shared sense of purpose among participants, strengthening the collective effort to accelerate breakthroughs in neuroscience and brain health.

Promoting Connection and Innovation

EXECUTIVE EXELOOPS℠

Exeloop Executive℠ convenes senior leaders, innovators, and philanthropists for invitation-only, in-person engagements designed to inspire collaboration and innovation in medical research. These intimate events focus on neurology and brain health, creating a dynamic environment that encourages candid, off-the-record dialogue about the forces reshaping scientific discovery, research funding, and innovation. Participants engage with emerging ideas and shared challenges while expanding their networks beyond familiar circles. By bringing together individuals who might not normally collaborate, Exeloop Executive introduces new perspectives, sparks fresh thinking, and fosters connections that can accelerate impact and shape how neurological breakthroughs move from insight to real-world application.

In 2025, KTCT hosted a pivotal Executive Exeloop in Los Angeles on October 22, convening senior leaders from academia, industry, government, and philanthropy to examine how the $1.7 trillion global research ecosystem is evolving amid funding constraints, administrative pressures, and shifting public trust. Discussions focused on bridging the “valley of death” between discovery and application, strengthening support for early-career researchers, and accelerating cross-sector collaboration to move innovations to patients. The resulting report can be read here.

Other resulting reports capture the insights and outcomes of these high-level discussions. Together, they reflect KTCT’s commitment to fostering coherence, collaboration, and imagination as the foundation for a stronger, more connected future of research.

“The Karen Toffler Charitable Trust convenes the kind of cross-disciplinary dialogue we need to build an open, equitable research ecosystem—one that accelerates early-stage innovation while keeping impact on patients and society at the center.”

- Dr. Aydogan Ozcan, Chancellor's Professor at UCLA, Volgenau Chair for Engineering Innovation, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Bioengineering. October 2025

SCHOLAR EXELOOPS℠

Scholar Exeloop℠ brings together past and present Toffler Scholars in curated, in-person gatherings designed to spark connection, learning, and momentum in neuroscience research. These sessions create a trusted space where early-career scientists share ideas, reflect on their research journeys, and explore new ways of thinking across disciplines, with emerging ideas potentially supported by KTCT and partners, reinforcing a community where promising concepts are recognized and progress is driven by shared insight.

“The Exeloop I attended a couple years ago launched what is now one of my most important collaborations. We’re from different departments (Neurology vs. Biostatistics) and different institutions (MGH/Harvard vs. UCLA), so I’m not sure how we would have met otherwise. I’m extremely grateful to Exeloop for being a place that not only brought us together but also provided seed funding to get our now years-long collaboration off the ground.”

– Dr. Ted Zwang, Harvard/Mass General, 2023 and 2025 Toffler Scholar

“After attending two Exeloop Scholar events, I found them both mind-expanding and career-enhancing, with a rare ability to spark cross-disciplinary collaboration. The most recent event connected me with leaders in human organoid research and opened doors to universities that are strong future prospects as I move toward research independence.”

- Dr. Adithya Gopinath, University of Florida, 2020 and 2025 Toffler Scholar
