Season 3 of Research Renaissance Expands the Conversation: From Brain Science to Health Science

By Deborah Westphal

We are excited to announce the launch of Season 3 of Research Renaissance-the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust’s podcast exploring the ideas, people, and partnerships shaping the future of discovery.

This season marks an important evolution. What began as a deep dive into the Future of Brain Science now expands to the Future of Health Science, reflecting the multidisciplinary reality of modern neuroscience. Today’s breakthroughs in neuro research do not arise in isolation. They emerge from studying interconnected systems – such as the lymphatic, immune, cardiovascular, and metabolic systems, among others. Understanding the brain increasingly requires understanding the body. Season 3 embraces that broader scientific ecosystem and the leaders working across its boundaries.

Our first episode launches March 4, featuring Dr. Jessica Rexach, Assistant Professor at UCLA and a 2024 Toffler Scholar, whose work bridges clinical neurology and genetic discovery.

Additional guests include:

  • Dr. Caterina Lasome, iON Informatics, LLC
  • Dr. Siyar Bahadir, neurosurgeon and Elmezzi Scholar at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research
  • Dr. Julianne McCall, CEO, California Council on Science and Technology
  • Dr. Scott Russo, Director of the Brain-Body Research Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
  • Dr. Jacob Hooker, Founder and CEO of Sensorium Therapeutics
  • Dr. Rebecca Wallings, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Stark Neurosciences Research Institute

New episodes will be released weekly on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and the KTCT website.
